Robert Sherman's whimsical "Carousel in the Country" was inspired by his musical contributions to the Walt Disney motion picture Mary Poppins. Mary Poppins (Julie Andrews), Bert (Dick Van Dyke) and the children take part in a "horse race" on carousel ponies, which, by the magic of Mary Poppins, break free from the carousel and speed through the countryside. Mary Poppins wins the race, and when asked how it feels she replies "Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious!", the wonderful mouthful of a word invented by Robert Sherman.

Robert Sherman relates the up and down ride of the carousel horse to the journey of life. "Sometimes it can be difficult to make it through the brush, but we go on."
